Connect. Volunteer. Create.

Localworks is fueled by our community volunteers! National Volunteer Week is an opportunity to recognize the impact of volunteer service and the power of volunteers to build a stronger community. We want to let all of our volunteers know how much we appreciate your time, energy and dedication! So many of you have spent many hours making our events and programs a success and continue to help us advance Wheat Ridge as a vibrant and sustainable community!

Meet our Featured Volunteer, Sue Komers

One of our fantastic volunteers, Sue Komers, moved to Wheat Ridge in 2019 from Chicago, and began volunteering for Localworks right away. Her first event as a volunteer was the Ridge at 38 Criterium in June 2019, and she was hooked. She loves our events, and is a big fan of all that we do. Sue says, ‘I love what Localworks does for Wheat Ridge-from business support, to community connection, to fun and engaging events. I think every community should have a Localworks!’

Sue is a frequent attendee on our Weekly Online Coffee Chats, and when she’s not volunteering or participating with Localworks, you can find her spending time with her new grandchild. Thank you for all you do for Localworks, Sue!  We’re so lucky to have you!

Clean Up with Sustainable Wheat Ridge - Rescheduled

The Earth Week Clean Up was rescheduled to this Saturday, April 24th due to weather.

Join us for an Earth Week Cleanup! Volunteers are needed to help pick up litter along the Clear Creek Trail and near Tabor Lake, Bass Lake, and West Lake. We will begin at Prospect Park and move west towards the Wheat Ridge Greenbelt Youngfield entrance, which is about a half mile in length. This event is a collaboration between The City of Wheat Ridge, Sustainable Wheat Ridge, Localworks, and Institute for Environmental Solutions.

There are two volunteer shifts: 10:00am-11:30am & 12:00pm-1:30pm

We are very excited to bring these groups together and coordinate an outdoor event for Earth Week and we have outlined some important points to ensure our volunteers are safe and successful at this event. See more information and sign up here.

More Clean Up Volunteer Opportunities

We have additional clean up volunteer opportunities planned for the spring, summer and fall. The next community clean up is May 15th from 8-10am on 38th Avenue. Sign up here.

The 2021 Criterium is planned for Sunday, September 12

This year’s Criterium date has been delayed due to the COVID pandemic and will be held on Sunday, September 12th on the Green at Ridge at 38 (7101 W 38th Avenue). This event has something for everyone in the family. The criterium bike races will take place on a fast, 1-mile course in the heart of Wheat Ridge. Participating cyclists ride as many laps of the circuit as possible within the time limit, ensuring a lot of action and excitement for spectators and athletes. This year, this race once again acts as the Colorado Criterium State Championships.

More details to come. Contact Localworks' Events Director, Carolyn Doran at cdoran@wearelocalworks.org with questions.

Get Involved in the SCL Lutheran Master Plan Process

The Lutheran Medical Center campus (aka the "Lutheran legacy campus") is located at 8300 W. 38th Avenue and has been part of the SCL Health network since 2010. In 2018, SCL Health purchased a 26-acre parcel at Clear Creek Crossing west of I-70 at 40th Avenue. Clear Creek Crossing presents a rare opportunity for the Wheat Ridge community to think about the future of the Lutheran legacy campus in the heart of the City.

There are many ways to provide input during the Master Plan process, from online surveys, video stories, and walking tours to public meetings, stakeholder committees, and focus groups. The first public meeting is on May 1 from 9am-12pm to tour the campus and share your knowledge. Face masks and social distancing will be required in this outdoor open house style event.
